Some curiosities about these birds
Having a blue bird among the birds of our fauna is incredible because it is a colour that is not usually found in nature. The carraca belongs to the same order as kingfishers and hornbills, and is an insectivorous bird that takes advantage of hollows, especially in abandoned houses and nests of other birds to breed in spring and summer when it is in Spain, the rest of the year it spends in Africa, its scientific name alludes to its order, the Coraciformes, this being Coracias garrulus, when you see a pretty medium sized bird like a blue pigeon you are in luck, you have seen a carraca!

The carraca was a work that was made at the top of the Bird House, using a lifting platform. It is a bird that is not very well known and many people think that it is a tropical bird. But nothing could be further from the truth, although the carraca only visits us in spring and summer. During the winters they go to the African continent to feed on insects. But every year they return to their frequent breeding sites, such as the Los Vélez region.
It was painted with acrylic paints, brushes and acrylic markers. It is protected with varnish to prevent deterioration in terms of its exposure to the exterior and against vandalism. When thinking about the façade, the carraca always had its place, because of its beautiful colours. It was a complex work, because I reviewed many photographs and consulted with experts to achieve a realistic finish. It is a unique work, it has never been done before and never in these dimensions.
